This has been a busy and dynamic year, and at some point I got hopelessly behind in updating this little blog, which I am now trying to remedy, entry by entry. The titles of cultural events, films, concerts, are entered according to their dates, but not “published” with all their information. In other words I haven’t gotten around to gathering the info, particularly on films, and completing the entries here so they can be shown.

Part of the reason for getting behind was that I was putting pressure on myself to comment on everything I saw, and in most cases I would in fact have something to say; but the original intention of this site was to keep track of cultural experiences, as well as to share them with a few friends in different places — I happen to think it is interesting to know what people see and do in the cultural realm.

One technical consideration which slows me down is gathering info on films: the imdb.com is the main source of data, but it is cumbersome extracting the list of actors: I can copy it but then I have to run it through BBEdit to clean it up, for example to remove the names of the characters the actors and actresses play. The uk.movies.yahoo.com/ site lists the actors directly, but doesn’t provide some other information. I have tried a couple of programs used for creating a private database of DVDs, but they weren’t much better. If anyone reading this (?) can recommend something in that direction (for a Mac) I would be grateful.

I see with some sadness that Jack Palance has died.

So I will be catching up on this site, and I have three or four, actually five, other sites in the works for the next period — other sites to fall behind on I suppose, though I will try not to.

By the way, the Google AdSense and Amazon associate material here is part of a test for the other sites and will not be permanent in this one.
