The Statement 25 June 05
Section: article
Categories: Film / in-a-cinema
This film was a positive surprise. The story, roughly based on the life of Paul Touvier, takes place in the early 1990s and is about a former Vichy police officer Pierre Brossard who turned over seven Jews from his village to the Gestapo and participated in their summary execution during WWII.
One impressive aspect of the story was how there was no dissonance between Brossard’s devout Catholicism and his role as a Nazi collaborator and murderer.
