Gabriel spoke a very good German between songs, mostly reading but sometimes free.

On September 13th, 1987 I last saw Peter Gabriel (someone else’s ticket), two days after the assassination of Stepping Razor Peter Tosh on September 11th, shortly after the release of Tosh’s album No Nuclear War. Gabriel performed Biko and dedicated it to Tosh. Steve Biko had been assassinated by the South African Government at the hands of their security forces, falling into a coma on September 11th and dying on September 12th, 1977.

In 1979 I had the honor of seeing Tosh at a nightclub started by Carly Simon and James Taylor on lower Cape Cod. His performance was mesmerizing as he graced the small stage in his Chinese slippers.
