But every film has content, even significant content, and often it can be found in the film’s ideological stance and compromises.
In this case what is of interest is that the film does show the genocidal and duplicitous character of the U.S. government’s policies towards the Native Americans — but is then compelled to allay the expected negative effect on the “viewers” by introducing an entirely gratuitous sub-story in which Native Americans are butchered by bounty hunters, and the representatives of the (genocidal) U.S. government, while tracking down Geronimo, express disdain (?) for the bounty hunters and kill them. This, positioned towards the end of the film, portrays them as the good guys and serves to distance them from their own murderous policy towards Geronimo and the other Native Americans who refused to submit to U.S. dominion.
