I don’t know how many times I have seen this film. It is rich and poignant enough, yet there is more to see… in many scenese there is a deep focus, flattening the image and echoing Japanese woodcut styles.

And I never fail to be moved when Kyuzo and Kikuchiyo are shot by the bandit hidden in the hut.
